Ann Joo Steel Berhad (AJSB)

Established in 1961 and formerly known as Malayawata Steel Berhad, AJSB is a pioneer of the nation’s steel industry and a leading manufacturer of long products ranging from billets, high yield deformed bars, mild steel round bars and wire rods.

AJSB operates an upgraded 90 metric tonne Electrical-Arc-Furnace (“EAF”) steel-making plant with an annual rated capacity of 680,000 metric tonnes and three rolling mills with a total annual rated capacity of 580,000 metric tonnes. The steel-making plant and two rolling mills are situated on a strategic piece of land adjacent to railway tracks and the Penang seaport, measuring approximately 278 acres at the Prai industrial hub in Penang and another rolling mill is located at Section 23, Shah Alam.

AJSB is the first steel mill in Malaysia and Southeast Asia to implement an Integrated Management System incorporating three internationally-acclaimed certifications, ie. Quality (ISO 9001:2000), Environmental (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Safety and Health (OHSAS 18001:1999). In addition to SIRIM product certification licenses, AJSB also obtained product quality credentials from the United Kingdom Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels (UK CARES) for the supply of it’s steel products to major companies operating in the construction supply chain. With these internatisually recognised credentials, Ann Joo’s steel products are widely accepted in Europe, Middle East and Far East in regions.
