History

Ann Joo Resources Berhad (AJR) started out primarily as a scrap metal dealer in 1946 by the late Mr. Lim Kah Seng, its founder, whose vision and strong entrepreneurial spirit have brought much success to the company. Today, the AJR Group has grown into one of Malaysia’s largest steel stockist, service centre, manufacturer and trader of steel products. AJR was listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 26 November 1996. 

Stockist

AJR is one of Malaysia’s leading steel stockists, having established its presence since the 1950s and is regarded in the marketplace as one of the country’s top distributor of the most diverse range of steel products. AJR holds a wide array of flat and long products, both locally manufactured and imported, ranging from carbon steel and stainless steel to specialty steel of various grades, dimensions and quality, including alloy materials. Amongst the high value-added steel products that AJR distribute are pressure vessel plates, shipbuilding plates, abrasive-resistant plates, structural steel such as H-beams and I-beams and specialty steel pipes such as those of American Petroleum Institute standards, which are commonly consumed in the oil and gas sector. 
Most of the steel products from its stockists business are consumed by the oil and gas, palm oil and oleochemical, food and beverage processing and other engineering-fabrication intensive sectors. 

Steel Service Centres

The Group’s technologically-advanced steel service centres are mainly involved in the slitting and shearing of steel coils into plates and sheets of various shapes, sizes and dimensions, as well as in the supply of precision metal pressed and metal stamped parts and pre-cut and pre-bend deformed bars. The technical skills and expertise of AJR’s steel service centres, stemmed from its strategic alliance with the Japanese, are sought by numerous MNCs, particularly in the consumer electronic (component parts for air-conditioners, audio-video appliances etc.) and automotive sector (components parts for shock absorbers, steering wheel and seat frames). 

Manufacturing and Trading 

AJR’s manufacturing activities consist primarily of the production of sections (angles bar, flat bar, square bars etc.), cast iron, sluice valves and alloyed iron related products. In addition, AJR, through its 32%-owned associate Malayawata Steel Berhad, one of the country’s largest integrated steelmakers, manufactures primarily billets, deformed bars and wire rods. Complimenting its manufacturing business are its trading activities, where AJR is one of Malaysia’s leading trader and supplier of building material products such as steel bars, wire mesh, cement, roof tiles (both concrete and clay), bricks, metal door frame, VC pipes, plywood and timber products. 
Products from our manufacturing and trading businesses are primarily construction and infrastructure-dependent products.
